Newtown Textile Museum

Grant amount: £7,500
Award year: 2024
Awarded to: Newtown Textile Museum

In 2024 the Newtown Textile Museum was awarded a three year grant to support a resident weaver, three days a week from July to September. Emma Allin-Thomas was the second weaver to benefit, in summer 2025. She wove a variety of pieces of cloth, using yarn that had been dyed with natural dyes and explained the process to the visitors. There were numerous positive comments about the demonstration, with some saying, they were inspired to buy a loom and look at enrolling on weaving courses. Having someone working on a loom helped to bring the building alive, with one example of the 20 or so looms that might have been working in the building at the peak in the 1830s or 40s.
