Welsh Language Literary Award presented to one of the 2025 Enlli/ Bardsey artists funded by the Ashley Family foundation.
Rebecca Thomas, historian, novelist and writer from Cardiff, recently won the Daniel Owen Memorial Award 2026 at the National Eisteddfod, Wales’ biggest cultural festival held in North Pembrokeshire.
Rebecca’s Welsh-language fantasy novel ‘Ynys Gwales’, tells the story of Llyr and his family of fishermen and Morfudd, the guardian of Ynys Gwales.
Rebecca spent the Summer as Artist-in-Residence on Ynys Enlli with the Ynys Enlli-Bardsey Island Trust, as a result funding from The Ashley Family Foundation, allowing her to produce this award-winning novel, competing against other writers to win a prize of £5000.
